I am a fluent BSL user with over 20 years experience of both working and socializing within the Deaf community.
I have been teaching adults British Sign Language for 12 years. I also have 16 years experience of supporting Deaf students within all tiers of education, ranging from early years to college settings.
Alongside this, I have worked supporting Deaf clients for Social Services as well as supporting Deaf adults for Access to work. My varied experience within the Deaf community enables me to give an overview of Deaf Culture and how this differs from Hearing Culture alongside learning the language to give you a broad perspective of the challenges the Deaf face in everyday interactions and how you can communicate with them the most effectively.
I offer a variety of courses that can be tailored to each individual student. These include:

  • A Conversational BSL and Deaf awareness course combined
  • A stand-alone Deaf Awareness course with or without basic greetings and introductions
  • Deaf Awareness whilst wearing face masks
  • Basic Medical BSL and an overview of the challenges the Deaf face accessing Medical care including adjustments that can be made

I am also happy to provide conversational practice to those who would like to refresh or brush up on previously learned skills.
